These different features make us realize that our cats do not belong to the same breed, but again you wonder, 'what breed does your cat belong to and what could help you in determining the breed of your cat?’


It is common to hear most cat owners asking about the breed their feline friend belongs to. It is my belief that at some point you have found yourself in an embarrassing situation when someone asks you about your cat’s breed and all you can do is mumble. Read on, and we will share some facts that will help you to determine the breed of your cat and save you from experiencing other embarrassing moments.

Determining your Cat’s Type

You can’t be sure of your cat’s breed unless you acquired her together with the official papers which show his or her ancestors. The only way you can identify your kitty’s breed is by tracing its breeder relying on its microchip.The basic assumption you need to make is that your kitty has very minimal chances of being purebred.

Identify your cat's traits, such as the coat color, pattern and length which you can easily describe.   • Due to the flat nature of Persian Cats, they can experience problems in eye drainage. This problem causes residue to build up right beneath their eyes. To counter this complication, you ought to clean your furbaby with a tear stain remover, one which is specific for that purpose.
  • Most Persian kitties are prone to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) which is a genetic disorder. With this disorder, the kidneys affected normally have multiple cysts which cause loss of healthy tissue gradually. The result is kidney failure.

With the information on the traits of different cat breeds, you can easily link your kitty to one of the breeds. What you need to know is that, your cat could be having so many traits which are similar to those of a certain breed but the chances of it being a purebred are extremely low.

Also, there is quite a disparity between a cat’s breed and its traits. A clarification given by most experienced cat breeders states that a certain breed of cats can possess a particular trait, but not each and every cat which has that specific trait belongs to that breed.
